History

Brian Hall, Andrew Federowsky and Wayne Sharpe founded Bartercard on the Gold Coast, located on the eastern seaboard of Australia, in 1991. Our three founding Directors shared a dream and  vision, to make Bartercard the World's Largest Trade Exchange, expand nationally and globally and sustain a brand identity with street presence.

Since then Bartercard has grown to its global presence through innovation and investment in its systems and technology. Through the growth of the business and expansion of its membership, Bartercard now successfully operates in 6 countries and continues to assist members to buy and sell.

Highlights in the company’s history include:

1991 - Bartercard launched in Australia
1992 - Instrumental in forming industry operating procedures for trade exchanges
1994 - Bartercard International incorporated
1996 - Bartercard UK is launched
1997 - Bartercard Thailand
1999 - Bartercard initiates world’s first non-cash online transaction with bank Electronic Funds Transfer Terminal
2001 - Bartercard UAE
2002 - Business Excellence Award
2004 - Bartercard Cyprus
2004 - EFTPOS Terminal and swipe card technology introduced
2005 - Sales reach over $1.2 billion per annum
2006 - Bartercard UK sales exceed T£5.4 million/month
2007 - Bartercard UK voted Business Tool of the Year by Business Britain Magazine
2008 - SMS transaction processing launched in UK
2009 - Record breaking media coverage on Sky TV and BBC
2010 - Online transaction processing launched in the UK
2011 - Bartercard celebrate 20 years of Trading Success
